Tory Fair :: HEAP

October 3rd - October 30th, 2015
Opening Reception Saturday, October 3, from 3-6pm
Closing Reception Friday, October 30, from 6-8pm

Proof Gallery is pleased to present Heap, new work by artist Tory Fair. The works in Heap deepen Fair's vocabulary of formal and material juxtapositions . In the dominating eponymous work, casts of familiar objects are manipulated, multiplied, contaminated and elevated. Accreted into a monolith that challenges the physical space of the gallery, Heap is landfill and elegy.

Upstairs the Flowerhuggers, impressions of the artist's embrace, generate their own energy from which flower forms peek. The dense forms also operate as nuclei, threatening to swallow their surroundings. Heap reflects the binaries that preoccupy Fair: high/low, sacred/profane, feminine/masculine, beautiful/grotesque and absorbs us as well.

A catalogue is forthcoming with essay by Susan Stoops.
